Defibrillators
In New Zealand, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are essential tools for treating sudden cardiac arrest, which affects approximately five New Zealanders daily
Where to Find an AED
- Mobile App: Use the AED Locations app to find the nearest device in real-time.
- Registration: Owners are encouraged to register their AED with Hato Hone St John so 111 dispatchers can guide bystanders to them during emergencies
Basic Use Steps
- Call 111 immediately.
- Start CPR while someone else gets the AED.
- Turn on the device and follow its voice and visual prompts.
- Apply pads to the patient’s bare chest as shown on the diagrams.
- Stand clear when the device analyses or instructs you to deliver a shock.
